Soft-close hinges for kitchen cabinets and furniture

Soft-close hinges for kitchen cabinets and furniture

Soft-close hinges slow the door during the final stage of closing and guide it smoothly towards the cabinet. This reduces hard closing and makes them suitable for kitchen cabinets, wardrobes, bathroom furniture and other frequently used storage.

Here you will find Salice soft-close hinges for full-overlay, half-overlay and inset doors. The range includes several opening angles as well as models for standard wooden doors, thick doors, thin and special materials and other furniture applications.

Adjustable soft-close with twin silicone-oil dampers

The integrated soft-close mechanism is operated by twin silicone-oil dampers housed in the hinge cup. As the door approaches the closed position, the dampers slow its movement and guide it smoothly towards the cabinet.

The decelerating effect is adjusted using a simple switch on the hinge. This allows the damping to be adapted to the size and weight of the door and the number of hinges installed. A small, lightweight door may require less damping than a larger and heavier door.

As the damping mechanism is integrated into the hinge, a separate door damper is not normally required.

Choose according to the door position

Full-overlay hinges are used when the door covers the cabinet side. Half-overlay models are normally used when two doors share the same centre panel, while inset hinges are used when the door sits inside the cabinet opening.

The hinge arm and mounting plate height must be selected together to provide the correct door position and overlay.

Opening angles from 94° to 155°

An opening angle of approximately 105–110° suits many standard kitchen cabinets and furniture applications. Hinges with a 94° opening angle can be used when the door movement needs to be restricted or the construction requires a more compact opening. Soft-close wide-angle hinges with an opening angle such as 155° provide greater access.

Special-purpose soft-close hinges

In addition to traditional concealed hinges, the range includes AIR hinges recessed into the edges of the door and cabinet. Universal hinges and other models are also available for thin doors and special materials where a standard hinge with a 35 mm cup cannot be used.

For thick or heavily profiled doors, the hinge geometry must provide sufficient clearance from the cabinet. Check the door thickness and profile before selecting a hinge.

Number of hinges and installation

The number of hinges required depends on the height, width, weight and material of the door. A larger or heavier door normally requires more hinges than a small furniture door. Always follow the recommendations for the selected hinge series.

A mounting plate is never included when purchasing a hinge and must always be selected and ordered separately. Check that the mounting plate series and height suit the hinge and door position.

Frequently asked questions about soft-close hinges

How does a soft-close hinge work?

The spring in the hinge pulls the door towards the closed position. During the final stage of movement, twin silicone-oil dampers housed in the hinge cup slow the door and guide it smoothly towards the cabinet.

Can the soft-close action be adjusted?

Yes. The decelerating effect is adjusted using a simple switch on the hinge. The damping can therefore be adapted to the size and weight of the door and the number of hinges installed.

Where are the dampers located?

The twin silicone-oil dampers are integrated into the hinge cup. The soft-close mechanism is therefore built into the hinge and does not require a separate surface-mounted damper.

Do I need a separate cabinet door damper?

Normally not. The hinges have an integrated soft-close mechanism operated by twin silicone-oil dampers. A separate damper is not usually required when the correct number of hinges is installed.

What is the difference between soft-close and self-closing hinges?

A self-closing hinge has a spring that pulls the door towards the closed position. A soft-close hinge combines this closing action with integrated dampers that slow the door during the final stage of movement.

Can soft-close hinges be used with Push-to-open?

No, not for the same opening function. A soft-close hinge pulls the door towards the closed position, while a Push-to-open hinge has a reverse spring that pushes the door out when the push catch releases it.

Which soft-close hinge fits my cabinet door?

Determine whether the door is full-overlay, half-overlay or inset. You must also check the opening angle, hinge cup diameter and drilling depth, door thickness and required mounting plate.

Which opening angle should I choose?

An opening angle of approximately 105–110° suits many standard cabinets. A smaller angle can restrict the opening, while a 155° hinge provides greater access to the cabinet interior.

How many hinges do I need for my cabinet door?

The number depends on the height, width, weight and material of the door. Larger and heavier doors normally require more hinges. The damping effect can then be adjusted using the switch on the hinges.

Can soft-close hinges be used for thick or thin doors?

Yes, provided that you select a model designed for the door construction. The range includes special hinges for thick doors and for thin or special materials. Check the permitted door dimensions and installation instructions.

Is the mounting plate included with a soft-close hinge?

No. A mounting plate is never included when purchasing a hinge and must always be selected and ordered separately. Check that the mounting plate series and height suit the hinge and door position.
